Today my Guest Author is the very funny and very talented Ian Billings.
I asked Ian to tell us a bit about his writing journey. Over to you, Ian!
Ian Billings was born at a very young age. He has done many things in his time and some of them he'd like to tell you about. He is an exjuggler, a pantomime writer (fifty productions!), an actor, TV extra, a theatre technician, a university lecturer, a model and a general dabbler in many areas.
He has written episodes of BBC TV's Chuckle-Vision and his stage plays and pantomimes have been performed in Wolverhampton, Northampton, Hastings, Nottingham, Weston-Super-Mare and on a ferry to Spain. He has a Masters Degree from Birmingham University and two goldfish from Petworld.
He is five feet and seven inches in length and avoids cheese. Ian began performing stand-up comedy for kids at Edinburgh Festival Fringe (whilst also presenting his own radio show for Festival FM!) and now he tours theatres and schools throughout the UK, Cyprus, Germany, Australia, Uganda, Kenya, Russia, Switzerland, UAE, Oman, Vietnam and Thailand. He was described by one young audience member as "the most imaginative adult I've ever met!"
Caboodle Books reprinted SAM HAWKINS AND THE POINTY HEAD LIGHT HOUSE in October 2010 followed by sci-fi poetry collection, SPACE ROCKS! Ian has recently edited an anthology of children's poems for Save the Children called "Born to Giggle!" and his latest book is "IAN BILLINGS' LOST PROPERTY." Coming soooooon - SNOT MONSTER!
This all sounds fascinating, Ian. Tell us about your book 'Ian Billings' Lost Property.
Over the years of doing funny stuff for kids I’ve accumulated lots of bits and pieces that I no longer use (like left-over stand-up stuff) or pieces which have printed elsewhere but are no longer in print (like the stories) or material no one ever wanted to begin with (You decide what that is!). So rather than allowing it all to go mouldy in the wood shed I decided to drag it all out, hose it down and give it a general up-holster and send it out again. Hence, Lost Property as a title.
Poems! Stories! Jokes! Limericks! And Cheese!* Enter the kooky world of International Kid’s Comic and Writer IAN BILLINGS as he rummages in his lost property box to bring you a bonkers book of stuff! His silly style and wacky words will take you on a giggle-filled, chucklestuffed gallop through his mad mind! There’s chickens and fish and doors and octopuses and honey and tyres and noses and monsters and eggs and insects and pirates and holes and owls and geckos and clippings and mermaids and butter and spam and hiccups and cheese.** ! If you like laughing, you’ll like IAN BILLINGS’ LOST PROPERTY!
* There’s no cheese in it…. ** There really isn’t any cheese…. !
