12 Books for Christmas - The Holiday Swap

Posted on

Welcome to my Twelve Books for Christmas blog. Over these first twelve days of December I'll be introducing you to twelve romance books to warm your heart and make you feel all Christmassy. :) They'll all make wonderful presents for a friend, or you could even treat yourself.

My Christmas book today is The Holiday Swap by romantic novelist and RNA member Zara Stonely. The perfect feel good romance for fans of the Christmas movie The Holiday. What a gorgeous cover!

The Holiday Swap

‘Fun, flirty and fabulously festive’ Cathy Bramley

Two women, two very different lives – one perfect solution to escape festive heartbreak!

Tucked away in the idyllic English countryside, Daisy Fischer’s cosy little cottage has always been her safe haven. But when her completely dependable boyfriend issues her an ultimatum, Daisy realises there’s a whole world out there she’s missing out on.

Florence Cortes’s life couldn’t be better – gorgeous apartment right on the beach, fabulous job and dreamy boyfriend, or so she thought. Suddenly, Flo’s life isn’t so perfect after all.

When the girls house swap for the holidays, it’s not long before Daisy is being distracted by sun, sea and sexy Javier while Flo finds herself snowbound for Christmas with only handsome neighbour Hugo and a house full of animals to keep her company.

Love actually does seem to be all around this Christmas, but in the places Flo and Daisy least expect to find it…

Author bio

Zara Stoneley was born in a small village in Staffordshire and wanted to be James Herriot when she grew up. After completing an IT degree, working as a consultant, running a dog grooming business, teaching, and working at a veterinary practice she decided she had more than enough material to write several books even if she would never qualify as a vet!

She is the author of the Tippermere series (Stable Mates, Country Affairs and Country Rivals) published by HarperCollins, as well as several standalone novels.  Snuggle up this winter with her latest book 'The Holiday Swap'- the perfect cosy, Christmas read which will whisk you from Cheshire to Barcelona, and back again.

Zara is currently writing the first book of a new series, which will be published by HarperCollins in 2017 – look out for a hot vet and the most gorgeous country village ever!

Love the sound of that new series, Zara!

I asked Zara to tell us a bit about her family's festive traditions:

Do you have any favourite family Christmas traditions? If so, what are they?

Although I’m not particularly religious I love going to the evening carol service at a local village church the Sunday before Christmas. The village brass band, and the bell ringer’s, play and it’s a lovely atmosphere.  The church is in a beautiful spot, overlooking a lake, and you have to walk down a cobbled road to reach it. There’s quite often an icy nip in the air, and a wonderful feeling of peace round there as people head to the church carrying torches and lanterns. All the family then come back to our house for mulled wine, sausage rolls and mince pies – it’s the official start of the festive season!

I also love the Christmas Day afternoon walk – it clears my head, and more often than not gives me the chance for some quiet time and a one-to-one chat to my dad (as if it’s very cold or wet nobody else comes).

When do you open your Christmas presents?

After breakfast. We eat, tidy up then make a fire, grab a glass of bucks fizz, put the Christmas playlist on and open the presents!

If you could invite any author living or dead to share your Christmas lunch, who would it be?

Agatha Christie – she could help us create our own murder mystery evening, much more entertaining than charades!

What book would you like to find in your Christmas stocking?

It’s impossible to pick just one out, and I do love the surprise of discovering wonderful new reads. A really gorgeous book that I want to touch, and keep going back, to would be my ideal present - a limited edition, or one with lovely illustrations would be perfect. (I’d also love a new kindle as mine is showing signs of old age.)

What is the most unusual Christmas present you’ve ever had/given?

A chinchilla!

Wow! That's a cute present. :)
